weak – inktober 2018 day 15

It seems crazy but we’re about halfway through Inktober already…

Today’s drawing features Sniper Wolf from Metal Gear Solid.

(It’s probably not clear, but she’s got Snake in her sights.)

Had to use the bamboo brush and take-sumi ink, which I use for my fountain pen, for this piece because i forgot my usual gear. (This ink isn’t waterproof so no wash today. I was afraid when I added the wash, my ink lines wouldn’t hold up.)

Since I wasn’t using my usual brush, I tried to get the pencil underdrawing as clear as possible before I put any ink down. I didn’t want to be having to ‘find’ the drawing with an unfamiliar brush.

Oh! And here’s the pose i needed to use for reference today

star – inktober 2018 day 8

metal gear solid 2 introduced the idea of having to deal with the enemy guards you’d incapacitated. You had to drag around the guards, hide them in alcoves, or stuff them in lockers so fellow guards wouldn’t stumble upon them and your presence wouldn’t be detected.

After using a wash in yesterday’s sketch, I decided to try it out here today. I’m digging the results.

And here’s the original sketch.

exhausted – inktober 2018 day 7

In Metal Gear 4, Snake is an old man, exhausted by years on the battlefield.

He wears a sneaking suit that helps him blend in, octopuslike, with his environment.

I try to convey that effect with a little ink wash. I’m not quite successful, but the effect is interesting, nonetheless.

As a little bonus, here’s the preliminary drawings.

First the pencil sketch, than the inks.

Onward.

drooling – inktober 2018 day 6

6mgs1-inktober-drooling

Today’s inktober 2018 prompt, drooling.

If you’re not familiar with the Metal Gear video games, one of the ways you can bypass enemy guards is to drop magazines as a distraction, allowing Snake to sneak by undetected.

(I don’t remember any magazines in the original Metal Gear Solid, but the guards also had full face masks, but how would I show him drooling through his mask? So liberties have been taken. Liberties!)

(Also, you can catch a glimpse of one of the previous versions I did towards the bottom of the photo. You can also see a light drawing of another previous version with a close up of the guard still there on the wall.

roasted – inktober 2018 day 3

on day 3 of inktober, you get 3 drawings. this trend will not continue.

mgs3-roasted-1

one of the antagonists in metal gear 3 is the fury, a cosmonaut obsessed with flame.

mgs3-roasted-2

mgs 3 also features a survival element, where living off the jungle may help your character, snake, complete his mission

mgs3-roasted-3

those elements combined.

if you look closely you can see abandoned underdrawings in the first two sketches

inktober starts tomorrow

gearing up for inktober 2018

tour inktobers past:

2017: I got serious, busted out a brush pen,  i followed jake parker’s official prompt list, but did them within the Sherlock Holmes universe, managing an ink drawing every day of the month

2016: I only managed 1 ink drawing during 2016’s inktober

2015:featured a few drawings

2014: I managed half a dozen ink drawings

this year, I’ll once again be using jake parker’s official prompt list, this time in the world of…well, you’ll just have to wait until tomorrow to find out… since i’m not 100% sure what I’m doing yet. The day before I need to start…I know, I know…
