its hard to believe that this inktober is winding down already…
it’s been so much fun, and somehow, less stressful than last year
i don’t know if my results have been any better, but the schedule was easier to keep for some reason
hopefully i can keep it up because i’m going to head right in to 30 days of comics in november.

had no idea, but according to the metal gear wiki, raiden translates to ‘thunder and lightning’ or ‘thunder god’ in japanese… so today, a raiden sketch
day 26 stretch
forgot my waterproof ink so no washes today
drew snake’s left leg way too long in the sketch but corrected it on the inks
i may have mentioned this before, once or twice, but i haven’t played mgs5 so i can’t say for sure that there isn’t a porcupine suit in the game.
and since this is the third one of these i’ve done, i guess this makes it a ‘running gag.’

to anyone with more inking experience than me: its getting increasingly difficult for my brush to keep a fine point, making it very frustrating to use – does that mean its time to get a new brush?
one of the stranger threats in a bonkers game, mgs2, was the ‘fatman.’ he was a master bomb builder who also wore roller blades and kind of looked like uncle fester

And that’s not a cake floating out there. It’s a ration. They float in the mgs games.
I haven’t played Metal Gear Solid V, so I can’t say for sure that there is not a whale suit in the game.

To my knowledge, there’s no ‘One Ring’ in the Metal Gear franchise…
metal gear solid 2 introduced the idea of having to deal with the enemy guards you’d incapacitated. You had to drag around the guards, hide them in alcoves, or stuff them in lockers so fellow guards wouldn’t stumble upon them and your presence wouldn’t be detected.
After using a wash in yesterday’s sketch, I decided to try it out here today. I’m digging the results.

In Metal Gear 4, Snake is an old man, exhausted by years on the battlefield.
He wears a sneaking suit that helps him blend in, octopuslike, with his environment.
I try to convey that effect with a little ink wash. I’m not quite successful, but the effect is interesting, nonetheless.
As a little bonus, here’s the preliminary drawings.
First the pencil sketch, than the inks.

I haven’t played Metal Gear Solid 5 so I don’t know if there’s a chicken suit in there or not.
But I’d like to think there is.
inktober 2018 day 4: spell
metal gear solid. meryl is under the spell of foxhound’s resident psychic
this one could really use a background. maybe i’ll go back in sometime this month and fill it in
on day 3 of inktober, you get 3 drawings. this trend will not continue.
one of the antagonists in metal gear 3 is the fury, a cosmonaut obsessed with flame.
mgs 3 also features a survival element, where living off the jungle may help your character, snake, complete his mission
those elements combined.
if you look closely you can see abandoned underdrawings in the first two sketches
Inktober 2018 continues with Metal Gear Solid 2.
Metal Gear Solid was already a strange game, but Hideo Kojima’s Metal Gear Solid 2 was completely bonkers, and great.
Today’s prompt: tranquil.
