to celebrate, how about a new ‘steps’ strip?

to celebrate, how about a new ‘steps’ strip?
shop back up, but that means my archive of webcomics is down:(
wordpress doesn’t know when it will be fixed. they rolled out an automatic update of woocommerce that doesn’t play well with the webcomics plug in
and they can’t roll back the woocommerce update
in the meantime here’s a snippet of timelapse featuring me digtially inking the latest ‘steps’ strip, which you can’t read in the archive, so i’ve posted that below as well…
go now! read it! it’s great! (to be fair, though, i am pretty biased)
it’s been since november of last year that I posted a steps strip, which just seems crazy to me…
it looks great! and they feel great in hand. find out for yourself
i wish my mom could see these. she would love them
ok i finally decided what the cover will be for volume 2 of the steps zine
here it is, keeping with the tradition established by volume 1 of using a panel from one of the interior strips
the art file for the book is all set up, now i’ve just got to get them printed up
you can preorder now or if you didn’t yet pick up volume 1, you can preorder the steps 2 pack
here’s the first panel of day 8 in the 30dayscomics challenge
little guy’s got a rubber band
i’ve been working on today’s strip for-ev-er and my results are still mediocre. a frustrating lack of skill
i’ve got so many versions of this that look even worse
i’ll have to post them some time
since this strip works best horizontal, it will probably look best for you here (and it’s in color)
you can also view a color version here
p.s. a note on the ‘(happened in july 18)’ note. when artist john porcellino (whose king-cat comics you should really subscribe to) makes his comics, he (often? always?) notes the date when the incident that inspired the comic occurs, and then also notes the dates when he draws and inks it, which i think is a lovely touch. i meant to do it for yesterday’s strip, since the date when the peas incident happened and i actually published the strip were so far apart, but in the rush to get it posted before midnight for yesterday’s 30 days of comics deadline, i completely forgot. so the date is my john p homage.
another steps strip for day 4 of 30 days of comics
i’ll keep going with these until i run out of my stockpile of ideas
another new steps strips for the 30 days of comics
30 days of comics continues with a new steps strip
it’s been so long
new steps strip  is up
i’m not in love with the inks
they feel too harsh
maybe i just need to work larger
maybe i just need to use pencil instead of ink
maybe i need to get better with the paints so i can avoid the line work entirely
and i know the horizontal layout doesn’t work great on mobile
it’s been so long since the last one
but a new ‘steps’ strip, ‘potty training’, is up
almost every other ‘steps’ strip has been done in digital, pushing pixels around
but today’s is fully scribbled in pencil, with lots of (kneadable) erasing, then brushing down puddles of watercolor, and finally a bit of inking
if this is the first ‘steps’ comic you’ve happened to catch
it has been three weeks since my last post, so i hope you enjoy today’s comic as i get back in the swing of things.
the first screennotes newsletter ever went out today. you can subscribe here if you like.
i guess this is now the second in a series of couch cushion strips🙂
hey kids! comics!
a new strip for today
it’s been 11 days since the last strip
way too long
but now the wait is over
well, kind of
now you have to wait for the next one
