double – inktober 2018 day 29

29mgs-inktober-double

day 29: double

so here’s a little paper, rock, scissors between twin snakes; metal, and liquid

its hard to believe that this inktober is winding down already…

it’s been so much fun, and somehow, less stressful than last year

i don’t know if my results have been any better, but the schedule was easier to keep for some reason

hopefully  i can keep it up because i’m going to head right in to 30 days of comics in november.

follow along so you only miss a post when i do

expensive – inktober day 22

Inktober continues with prompt: expensive.

Snake caught with an empty wallet at the Metal Gear Store.

It didn’t occur me until after my first sketch that I needed to emulate the original metal gear solid inventory system.

Then I had to decide who was going to be manning the shop – the funniest and least likely choice felt like Psycho Mantis.

It’s also a good thing that this isn’t how equipment procurement worked in the original Metal Gear Solid. All those items would have been expensive for sure…

drain – inktober 2018 day 21

day 21. drain.

here’s a look at the initial sketches.

21mgs3-inktober-drain-sketch

In the first sketch you can see that I thought I might need the jungle setting behind Snake.

On the second sketch, once I had just the figure of Snake, the life gauge, and the blood trail in there I realized those 3 elements were all that was needed.

At first I had the trail just going from left to right, but then I tried to give the drawing a little depth by having the trail come in at an angle.

Thanks for reading, and if you’ve missed any, you can catch up on all of my 2018 inktobers here…

weak – inktober 2018 day 15

It seems crazy but we’re about halfway through Inktober already…

Today’s drawing features Sniper Wolf from Metal Gear Solid.

(It’s probably not clear, but she’s got Snake in her sights.)

Had to use the bamboo brush and take-sumi ink, which I use for my fountain pen, for this piece because i forgot my usual gear. (This ink isn’t waterproof so no wash today. I was afraid when I added the wash, my ink lines wouldn’t hold up.)

Since I wasn’t using my usual brush, I tried to get the pencil underdrawing as clear as possible before I put any ink down. I didn’t want to be having to ‘find’ the drawing with an unfamiliar brush.

Oh! And here’s the pose i needed to use for reference today

drooling – inktober 2018 day 6

6mgs1-inktober-drooling

Today’s inktober 2018 prompt, drooling.

If you’re not familiar with the Metal Gear video games, one of the ways you can bypass enemy guards is to drop magazines as a distraction, allowing Snake to sneak by undetected.

(I don’t remember any magazines in the original Metal Gear Solid, but the guards also had full face masks, but how would I show him drooling through his mask? So liberties have been taken. Liberties!)

(Also, you can catch a glimpse of one of the previous versions I did towards the bottom of the photo. You can also see a light drawing of another previous version with a close up of the guard still there on the wall.

roasted – inktober 2018 day 3

on day 3 of inktober, you get 3 drawings. this trend will not continue.

mgs3-roasted-1

one of the antagonists in metal gear 3 is the fury, a cosmonaut obsessed with flame.

mgs3-roasted-2

mgs 3 also features a survival element, where living off the jungle may help your character, snake, complete his mission

mgs3-roasted-3

those elements combined.

if you look closely you can see abandoned underdrawings in the first two sketches
