Tom Strong Compendium, by Alan Moore and Chris Sprouse

I’m sloooowly winding my way through the Tom Strong Compendium by Alan Moore and Chris Sprouse, which collects the entire Tom Strong run that floated across a couple of publishers during it’s initial debut.

I remember picking up a few of these issues in pamphlet form when they first debuted 25 years ago, but didn’t stick around through the whole run.

Alan Moore is a giant in the realm of superhero comics, and Tom Strong is his playful take on the pulp heroes like Doc Savage,  precursors to the invention of the superhero.

With gorgeous art and design by Chris Sprouse, Strong is a more enlightened version of those pulp stories. Moore pokes fun at the pulpy tropes, bends them to his will, and molds them into Pure Entertainment.

Found by browsing the shelves of my Local Public Library.
